I liked it more than I expected and less than I hoped. The setup was excellent; the payoff was adequate. A three-star book with five-star ambitions.

Reads like the author had a genuinely great idea and then wasn't quite sure how to end it. The journey is worth it even if the destination disappoints slightly.

I've been evangelical about this book to an embarrassing degree. My friends are tired of hearing about it. I don't care. Read it.

I have a complicated relationship with this book. Parts of it are brilliant. Other parts had me checking how many pages were left. The good outweighs the bad.

Everything I want from this kind of book. Big ideas, compelling characters, a plot that justifies its length, and an ending that earns its emotional weight. Highly recommended.

One of those rare books where you're sad when it's over, not because the ending is sad, but because you don't want to leave the world it built.

Really, really good. I stayed up way too late three nights in a row and I don't regret a single minute of lost sleep. The characters feel like people I actually know.

Beautiful, moving, and occasionally genuinely funny. The writing is a step above the genre average in ways that are hard to articulate but impossible to miss.
